I'd love to go Linux, but it confuses my parents too much. ;) "What happened to the Start button?" lol As for the problem, you could also try renaming the laser images for each team to like "<teamname>_laser2.png" and then changing the config to use laser2. You could also try com...

What version of the source are you using? 1.10.4 or CVS? I've built the 1.10.4 source on Windows and haven't had a problem with that. Haven't got a Linux box set up with gcc yet, so I can't try to duplicate the problem. Did you modify the source in any way?

It might also help if you post the line from your bzflag19.bzc file that shows the screen resolution. (the "set resolution" line) The file is located in "c:\My Documents\My BZFlag Files\" on Windows 98. Just open it in notepad, then copy and paste the line here.

The file you want is bzflag-1.10.4-0.W32.exe, being that you only have 8MB of VRAM.

When the screen goes blank, does the power light on the monitor change color? (like from green to orange?) If it does, it means your monitor can't do that screen mode. Also, what video card do you have in there?

The problem I have is that my monitor is a cheap off brand, and it doesn't tell my video card what it can't do. So if it goes into an unsupported mode, the thing just goes blank on me.

Yeah, it sorta does. The reverse is true as well. A really low FPS will increase your lag.

If the screen went blank, it might have been in an unsupported mode for your monitor. You might want to manually edit the "bzflag19.bzc" file and locate the "set resolution" line. Change it to something like this set resolution "640x480 @60Hz 16 bits" Then start the gam...

No, the ban is based off of IP, but some people have dynamic IP addresses. They can reconnect and get a new one, then join again.

Well, I feel that would make it unfair. It should be all or nothing. A team could vote their flag back just before it would be captured. Of course, that's assuming they have enough registered players on their team in order to win the poll. A better fix would be to make the flags not be allowed in ti...

I'm working on making a "/poll flag reset" command now, but the code is looking pretty sloppy. Maybe I'll let one of the real devs work on that. Also the /mkick will be released as a patch when it's done. I'll maybe release 2 patches: one with only robots and nr, and one with all 4 t...

Lag on a local server shouldn't even be 80ms. I normally get about 12ms max. If this is a lag problem, that could be why you can't spawn. Spawns are now server side, so if you are dropping packets, you might miss the spawn message. Then server then thinks you are alive, and won't send another spawn ...

Thx for the comments. :D I'm aware of -lagwarn and -maxidle, but some people might want to do that kind of stuff manually. Or they simply might want to kick with a lower threshold then that of the config. As it stands right now, it's not possible to adjust the idle kick time without restarting the s...

New Server Command: Mass Kick (/mkick)

I'm working on a new server command that will allow admins to kick multiply people off the server based on the criteria provided. Here's what I have so far: /mkick robots Kicks all robot players off the server /mkick lag <threshold> Kicks all players with lag over <threshold> ms /mkick idle <thresho...

There are a few things that will make a big difference in the results here. First, the screen resolution and color depth affect performance dramatically. Second, the texture settings and other display settings in BZFlag affect frame rate as well. Another factor is Antialiasing and Anisotropic filter...

Updated NSIS Installer Script

I was bored today, so I have written a new NSIS installer script for BZFlag. The current installer looks too plain, so I decided to go with the Modern User Interface feature of NSIS 2. I also made a custom uninstall icon. After you extract the zip file, the "BZFlagModern.nsi" script goes i...

Okay, you can now choose whether or not to show the tabs, toggled via the GUI Options menu. The tabs still function even if not visible. I have a full installer uploaded, along with an updated patch. Both can be downloaded from my download page under Misc Clients, just as before. The SF patch will b...

I haven't heard of missing shot IDs, but I have heard of invalid shot IDs. An invalid shot ID is like when someone tries to shoot a 5th bullet on a 4 shot server. This involves a hacked client. (a.k.a cheat client) That should be blocked by the server, unless someone found a flaw.
