New player shooting

I'm sure this probably has been brought up before, and there's no way/will to implement it, but why can't there be a way to identify new players so that (perchance) players might go easy on them (if they feel like it)? Otherwise you get situations where it's noob + a few not tooo bad players vs. fan...

It's fine, no problem. I'll go check those out.

Re: capping?

If Desert War counts as a CTF map, I can say I've never seen "pyr" there. Maybe it's because some people just don't know about dropping a flag over a pyramid, and those who do are fewer. And true, I've never played in GU.

Re: flags and tactical capabilities

Bad flags are supposed to be a pain, that's why they're there. They're there to provide an obstacle. We don't say to take out death physics because they're annoying, same with bad flags. However, I do think it would be interesting to add more flags that affect an entire team in some way, like genoc...

Re: trouble telling what height the shot coming at you is.

I've found that over time you "learn" when a shot may not hit you, so you don't have to dodge or jump to avoid the shot.

Re: capping?

I've never heard of laser spamming. Who says "pyr" in the middle of a game, unless it's something like "pass pyr"?

Re: Which map was the first map you ever played on?

First map was a massive field with no structures at all, and no one else but me, as I marveled at the finest graphics I'd seen till then. Fedora 5, mmmhmm.
The first map I really played on was "Wings and no Radar".

....."How do you jump?"...

Re: Why you play BzFlag

BZFlag works on old-end machines as well as new, so I can play on a Y2K Fedora 4 server with Bzflag 2.0.0 (Jurassicly old). Plus, bzflag has a good community.

"Beth", from Hills without radar map (or something like that), told me once to shoot for the flag in wing flights. Not sure what that means, but hope it helps.

BZFlag in Red Hat Fedora Core 7

I just installed FC7 and then BZFlag, but I have noticeable lag issues and bad graphics. Is it a driver issue? I have an nVidia graphics card. Should I get a newer driver, and if so, where? :?:

BZFlag for jump drives?

Is it possible to put BZFlag on a jump drive for use on different computers? If not, can I find (or make) a mod that allows one to do this?

BTW, where can I find the commands that you can give to a server, like th ones enumerated here, in list form? I remember one server where, in order to pick up a flag, you had to type something into the /server area.

If you are head on with the other WG...

The strategy I've read of on some tutorial is this. When you shoot, try to curve while moving upwards. THis would result in a slanted line of shots. This way, it is way harder to dodge bullets or get out of the way at the same time. It works.

I'll second Holey. In addition, there are enough people on the server at any given time that shooting randomly on the ground will get you more kills than taking the time to jump on a roof, which, if you're inattentive, makes you really vulnerable, and shooting from there. (But I'm not recommending t...

Since I'd rather not start another tread, is there any way to set the hunt function so that it automatically selects any tank that has a certain flag, like stealth? If not, are there any mods for such a thing?

Why does the Bzflag server always have a certain number of servers up on the first page ( of 22)? I mean, I know they are the most populated, like boxy war, but then what's the purpose of having 21 other lists of unused servers? In addition, some BZFlag sites have links and port names of servers the...
