Re: Hand-Made in the .bzw file
I don't make a whole lot of maps, but when I do, I usually code everything "by hand". Sometimes I will write scripts to generate stuff also, like Blast, when the map calls for it. I don't really use objects that are complex enough to require a 3D modeler, and I need more precision than som...

Re: Plug-in Starter
Sorry for the wait (it's been way too long), but I've finally gotten around to updating this script for 2.4.x. It should now include all API events that are in trunk as of today.
As before, there are bound to be typos or other bugs. Feedback is appreciated, of course.

Re: New Flag Idea
I'm not sure how useful such a flag would be anyway, since the tanks move and all... you'd still need to make some judgments about where/when to shoot.

Re: COLORS OF THE APOCALYPSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have mild red/green colorblindness, so often I find that red shots are the hardest to see against the grass. Open your config and add these lines: set bluecolor "0.5 0.5 1" set blueradar "0.5 0.5 1" ...That might fix your problem. Similar fixes for other colors, if needed...

Re: Machine Gun Shooting Distance
Adjusting the Machine Gun variables well can be tricky, as poorly-tuned machine guns can cause some state inconsistencies. If the reload time (controlled by _mGunAdRate) is shorter than the lifetime of the shot (controlled by _mGunAdLife), the client doing the shooting will see their own shots explo...

Re: Issues.
This topic has already been beaten to death in the thread that sigonasr2 mentioned, but I'd like to touch on the "sportsmanship" bit. There is a lot of idle (and sometimes vulgar) trash-talk on Planet Mofo and similar servers. Most of the time, I wouldn't call it serious. it's a by-product...

Agreed with Dartman, any music will get old before long, no matter how good it is. The recent GTA games ship with a considerable amount of "real" popular music, and even that eventually gets repetitive and needs to be shut off.

Re: Is this a cheap tactic?
Generally, I feel that camping and other "cheap" tactics aren't cheap when used for defensive purposes in CTF. Ideally, you're neutralizing threats as they approach, not just trying to rack up points. Given that few players are ever willing to play defense, you'd be crazy not to take advan...

Re: Wings Gravity Change Discussion
The easiest way to stop a rapid descent is to land on something. If you flap right after touching the ground, you'll get the "full" lift-off effect. I think the wings changes are a significant improvement over 2.0.x- Wings now takes some skill to use properly. It doesn't enable novice play...

Re: BzAdmin - Please Read.
Sorry for any misunderstanding I only wrote that because l4m3r said you can only use bzadmin to admin I didn't say that. What I said was that administration is what bzadmin was designed for. Non-admin players won't be kicked just for using it, but (for example) in the past I have kicked and shortba...

Re: BzAdmin - Please Read.
A web-based bzadmin probably wouldn't be too hard to write. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if someone had written one already. Authentication might be tricky, but I don't know the auth system that well. However, as the name implies, bzadmin was designed as an administrative tool, not a social one....

Re: Rejected Flags
Unless the game mechanics changed for 2.4 and I hadn't noticed, a Shield flag will not save you if a teammate is killed by a "stock" genocide shot. Shield blocking geno is a balance feature that was coded into the team flag Geno on Apocalypse in Action (and potentially other servers). This...

Spawn Facing the Center
This was requested by Optic Delusion, and I had figured that some others might have a use for it. (I was going to post it BEFORE someone asked, but forgot- D'oh!) As the name indicates, this plug-in modifies all spawns to face the dead center of the map, (0, 0, z). Of course, if the spawn is at exac...

Please keep the discussion civil. A few posts in this thread are nearing a tone that is not appropriate for BZBB. This is not a place for personal gripes, and the productivity level of this topic is going to drop below zero if things get too heated. --- Now then, it's already been said that the rule...

Swear Suppressor
Over the years I've noticed that a lot of server ops who employ chat filtering are not satisfied to merely #@$% out the bad words. What is desired, rather, is the complete absence of any hint of obscenity. Swear Suppressor is a simple plug-in that modifies the behavior of the server's built-in chat ...

Re: flagReset
This plugin has been rewritten for 2.4 and added to the source tree. It is now called "autoFlagReset" for clarity. The features are a little bit different also. It only resets unused superflags (not team flags). There is an option to reset flags one at a time, continuously, to avoid the cl...

Re: An Appeal to Server Admins -- and the Players
The key to rule enforcement on a BZFlag server, as with a lot of other Internet-based activity, is always going to be the presence of actual people keeping any eye on things. Unfortunately, most servers do not have continuous admin presence, especially with BZFlag's shrinking player base. Actually, ...

Re: fairCTF
I had thought that fairCTFstrong was made kind of redundant by fair4CTF, which was why I didn't include that functionality in the rewrite. Perhaps there is room for two CTF plugins in BZFlag. I can see two very different approaches to the problem- fairCTF is one, a static mode change to shut down th...

Re: fairCTF
fairCTF has been added to the BZFlag source tree at the request of Bullet Catcher. Get the plugin there from now on.
I've also taken the opportunity to rewrite most of it to use more logical events. Flag drop delay is now configureable; see readme.

Re: Unique BZFlag installation ID?
...And to answer the first part of the question, yes, similar identification techniques have been suggested many times before. Ultimately it wouldn't even matter where the installation ID (or hardware ID, or whatever) is stored. Servers would have to query the ID through the client, so a dedicated c...

Re: HOSTER'S, READ THIS
If you agree to let someone run your map, you have to agree to their terms. You are by no means entitled to any permissions whatsoever; that is completely up to the server op. Conditions like "You can only use my maps if you make me admin" generally don't fly either, since server ops usual...

Razer makes some nice products, but their MSRPs tend to be ridiculous. Try to grab their stuff from fleabay or some other bargain outlet, if you can find it. It saddens me that all the effort, dedication, hard work and money put into bzflag and the servers is spoiled by the increasing use of bad language.
