Re: Can't connect to local server
When I connect to the server I don't get the usual server messages, such as version info. The last message is Global Login Approved, but I cant spawn. A few comments on your server config file: You're showing your local admin password in that config file - better change it now, and hide it before po...

Re: Please Read
It's proven by the fact people have been banned maybe 3 or 4 times one after the other that bans don't work. Nonsense. All that shows is that there are a number of recidivists in the league. While managing them is a waste of everyones time and energy, it is the decent thing to do to let them learn ...

Re: Please Read
The proponents of allowing foul language and associated obnoxious behaviour in the league claim this is about the occasional 'wtf' when it most certainly is not. While I'm not a GU admin, I do host one of the offi servers for the league (pay the bills for it) and so the GU Admins kindly allow me to ...

Re: An Appeal to Server Admins -- and the Players
I understand your concern, and you can be sure that many server owners prohibit profanity on their servers. Likewise in the leagues, admins are vigorous in banning players (from the league) for profanity, but even then there are a number of "repeat offenders" who earn increasingly longer b...

Re: Compiling 2.4.0 on Debian 6 Squeeze 64-bit amd64
I assume there isn't a suitable package in the repositories? Did you try "apt-get install bzflag" or something before resorting to compiling the source code? During the configure step, it usually tells you if it is going to build a client, server, admin tool etc or not (and why not). In st...

Re: How to get terminal to run BZFS from 2.4, not 2.0?
I assumed that you installed v2.0 from source and not using your package manager. If you did build v2.0 from source then using your package manager to uninstall may not work well (or at all). I'm not sure about Ubuntu but SuSe sometimes puts things in weird places

Re: How to get terminal to run BZFS from 2.4, not 2.0?
Uninstalll is best, but its not essential. It also depends on how (where) you installed v2.4. Either will work though.

Re: How to get terminal to run BZFS from 2.4, not 2.0?
Yes, that is possible - the last of the three options above does that. The first step is to find out where the binary files are in v2.0. So, type which bzfs into a command line. The path that is returned is where your system is "looking" for bzflag and bzfs. Make a note of it (write it dow...

Re: How to get terminal to run BZFS from 2.4, not 2.0?
Do you want to keep both? One way would be to CD into the directory containing v2.4 and run bzfs from there. Or create a shell script which runs v2.4 bzfs and put it in your path Alternatively you could find out where v2.0 is: which bzfs rename that and put a symbolic link through to your v2.4 bzfs ...

Re: bz crashes with Segmentation fault
I usually build from source as the version in the package repositories is almost always old. There is a "pattern" in Yast called Base Development which you'll need to install, then the C/C++ pattern too (which will install the g++ compiler Blast mentioned). Then install the openGL dev file...

Re: bz crashes with Segmentation fault
Well I'm still on OpenSuse 11.4, but I have heard of a few issues with the new version of the xorg-x11 server and video drivers in 12.1. Some users experiencing graphics weirdness, which was resolved when they down-graded to the version used in 11.4. Maybe that's worth a shot? I assume you've looked...

Ahh ok, I suggest then that the configure script be amended to remove the now invalid options. The first thing I did was configure --help to check if those options were still valid.JeffM wrote:the configure options changed so many of those options you specified are invalid.

Howdy, just trying to compile the latest 2.4 beta on 64bit OpenSuse linux, using: ./configure --disable-robots --disable-bzadmin --disable-plugins --prefix=/home/grans/bin/bzf-beta configures ok, but fails on make here: g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../../include -DINSTALL_DATA_DIR=\"/home/grans/bi...

Re: BZFlag 2.4.0 Beta Program
The development for Version 2.4 is winding down and will soon enter the public beta phase on or around June 20th 2011. In preparation for this we will be having a week of bug testing to work out any remaining issues from our development. So what this means to you is; 1) If you are a server owner, i...

What's this? awesome.command ; exit; Anyhoo... IIRC the server will listen on the default ip address of the box, so 0.0.0.0 is ok unless you're doing some NAT stuff. Re: IRC meeting to discuss BZFlag Replacement Project
@Blast So none of the code from any of these branches made its way into trunk? Does the project always give such large blocks of work to single devs - could that be a contributing factor to why they were abandoned? (Tho I never see you on IRC). That may be a time-zone thing, I'm GMT+12, though I ha...

Re: IRC meeting to discuss BZFlag Replacement Project

While I can understand your point that there is that possibility, I think most of the developers are in agreement that beginning with a blank slate would be more econ...

Re: Rule change for planned substitutions
the resulting spawn position is randomly chosen by the server. I don't see really how this can be considered "unfair" or could possibly benefit the substituting team. Sometimes those random positions help one team while disadvantaging the other, and that's all we meant by that. For exampl...

<snip> We can ether spend a lot of time shoehoring in some code to make it work better in these cases ( a task we have proven we can not, or will not do ). Or we can go and start a new project with the goals of "make a better bzflag" and reuse all of the wonderful open source toolkits out...
